Richmond, Virginia, December 12, 2022 – Allianz Partners, a leading travel insurance and assistance company, is rolling out significant new enhancements to its retail channel products that provide more protections for the changing needs of retail channel customers. The product enhancements include 12 new covered events for trip cancellation and trip interruption, as well as significant extensions on maximum trip length and maximum policy length. The product enhancements also include higher benefit limits in response to increased travel costs, as well as higher benefit limits for medical emergencies. For the first time, the rescheduling of a special event can now trigger loyalty program and redeposit fee benefits, adding flexibility for consumers booking trips using points or miles.
New covered reasons for trip cancellations and interruptions include first responder call to duty, school year extension, veterinary emergency, denied boarding due to a medical reason, inability to receive a vaccination, adoption, new employment, visa refusal, theft or mechanical breakdown, covered illness/injury of a business partner, illness/injury/death of a caregiver and theft of travel documents. These new covered reasons are in addition to the list of 20-plus covered reasons for trip cancellation and/or interruption included in most Allianz Travel Insurance retail plans.
The company is also retaining popular benefits, such as free inclusion of kids on Classic products when traveling with an insured parent, guardian, or grandparent, and the flexibility of the Classic with Cancel Anytime plan—which includes up to 100% payment of non-refundable trip deposits when canceling for a covered reason and up to 80% payment when canceling for most other unforeseen reasons.
The new products, which will be available in 37 states on December 10, with more states pending, include new protection for both longer trips and longer trip planning windows. Maximum trip length has been extended from 180 days to 366 days and a travel insurance policy can now be in force up to 1,095 days—up from 770 days. The increase in maximum policy length will now allow travelers who have to rebook a trip the opportunity to move their policy’s effective dates up to 3 years in the future to match the dates of their rebooked trip.
“The world is a rapidly changing place and consumers’ travel needs and habits have changed as well,” said Richard Aquino, vice president and head of sales at Allianz Partners USA. “We’re proud to introduce significant new enhancements to our retail channel products that will better serve both our retail channel partners and the many consumers who count on us to protect their trips.”
Allianz Partners’ new retail channel products include benefits and covered reasons that may provide coverage to customers who become ill with COVID-19 or a future epidemic, are individually ordered to quarantine, or are denied boarding due to a suspected illness. These products also may cover emergency medical care and transportation or provide reimbursement for change fees and loyalty points deposit fees if the customer becomes ill with an epidemic disease. Specific benefits and covered reasons included in a product vary by product and by state. See your plan for details on what your benefits and covered reasons your plan includes.
