Richmond, Virginia, January 31, 2022 – Americans have their hearts set on sunny and warm getaways to Orlando, Florida and Cancun, Mexico this Valentine’s Day, according to Allianz Global Assistance’s 2022 Top Valentine’s Day Destinations review. Domestic travel is favored, as 81 percent of travelers will be taking a trip within the United States and 19 percent will be headed to an international destination.
The travel insurance and assistance company analyzed where Americans are traveling to for Valentine’s Day 2022, which is taking place this year on the Monday after Super Bowl LVI, a first-time instance in the event’s history. Allianz Partners reviewed travel plans* for roundtrip flights for two passengers departing from U.S. destinations leaving Thursday, February 3 to Monday, February 7 and returning Thursday, February 10 to Tuesday, February 15, and this year, travelers are packing their bags to Orlando; Las Vegas; Fort Lauderdale; Miami; Phoenix; Fort Myers; Salt Lake City; Tampa; New York; and Los Angeles.
For international jetsetters, Mexico is the apple of most travelers’ eye -- Cancun, Mexico City, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta lead the top international destinations review. Further proof that Americans are enticed by warm weather and tropical beaches, Americans are also headed to Montego Bay, Jamaica; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Aruba; Nassau, Bahamas; Liberia, Costa Rica; and Providenciales, Turks and Caicos this year.
“Travelers are ready to spend time away from home with their special someone this Valentine’s Day,” said Daniel Durazo, director of marketing and communications at Allianz Partners. “No matter which destination your heart leads you to, travel insurance can help keep your romantic getaway on track, providing coverage when it comes to travel delays, baggage loss, medical emergencies and cancellations.”
In March 2021, Allianz Partners announced enhancements** to many of its travel insurance products in most states through an Epidemic Coverage Endorsement. Products that include this endorsement may provide coverage to customers who become ill with COVID-19 or a future epidemic, are individually ordered to quarantine, or are denied boarding due to a suspected illness. These products may also cover emergency medical care and transportation or provide reimbursement for change fees and loyalty points deposit fees if the customer becomes ill with an epidemic disease. Availability of the Epidemic Coverage Endorsement, and specific covered reasons under that endorsement, varies by product and by state. See your plan for details.
