Richmond, VA, December 6, 2021 –Orlando, Las Vegas and Los Angeles are the top three rental car destinations for the 2021 holiday season according to the Allianz Travel Insurance Top 10 Rental Car Destination Index. The travel insurance and assistance company’s latest review revealed a majority of Americans are renting cars in warm-weather locations this holiday season, with five out of the ten destinations located in Florida.
Allianz Partners reviewed a sample of 32,000 rental car reservations* for the upcoming holiday season that were booked through partners that offer Allianz Rental Car Damage Protector, to determine the top airport destinations where holiday travelers are renting cars.
Orlando, Florida (#1), took first place and was also the top rental car destination for both summer and Spring Break this year, followed by Las Vegas (#2), which was ranked third for summer and second for Spring Break.
Los Angeles (#3), which did not crack the top five previously, landed at third place, followed by Denver, Colorado (#4). While the Mile High City is popular with skiers and winter sports enthusiasts, it’s also interesting to note that Denver is considered to be one of the sunniest cities in America, receiving around 300 days of sunshine annually.
Other warm-weather destinations on the Top 10 Rental Car Destination Index for the holidays include Tampa (#5), Miami (#6), both in Florida and Phoenix, Arizona (#7) followed by Fort Lauderdale, Florida (#8), Honolulu, Hawaii (#9) and Fort Myers, Florida (#10).
“This holiday season will be remembered as the year Americans lined up at the rental car counter after more than a year and a half of feeling locked down,” said Daniel Durazo, director of marketing and communications for Allianz Partners USA. “With rental cars in high demand, smart consumers are looking to save money by purchasing rental car insurance before they arrive at the counter. It’s important to remember that credit cards may offer only secondary coverage, meaning if you’re in an accident you may still need to file a claim with your auto insurance company. Allianz Rental Car Damage Protector offers primary coverage at an affordable price.”
With up to $75,000 in theft and physical damage coverage, Allianz Partners’ Rental Car Damage Protector provides primary coverage, includes no deductible and can be purchased for most domestic or international rentals.** Backed by Allianz’s award-winning customer service and 24/7 travel assistance, Rental Car Damage Protector plans may also include Trip Interruption coverage, which can be used to reimburse travelers for the unused portion of their pre-paid expenses or for extra unexpected transportation expenses when insured customers have to cut their trip short due to a reason covered by their policy, and may include coverage for baggage loss or damage.
Allianz Partners offers Rental Car Damage Protector through leading travel providers and directly to consumers as an alternative to the typically higher priced insurance products that are offered at rental car counters. Rental car insurance is also available as an optional upgrade in some Allianz travel insurance products, and is included in most annual products.
